PHUQUE Cancer FriYAY

What Not to Say to Someone With Cancer
Lesson #3

“My aunt/mom/dad/sister had that… and died.”

I know people usually say this because they’re trying to relate.

They hear the word cancer and immediately think of someone they knew who had it.

But when you’re the person sitting there with a fresh diagnosis, hearing how someone else died from the same thing is not exactly comforting.

Cancer is not one-size-fits-all.

Different cancer.
Different stage.
Different treatment.
Different body.
Different story.

So if someone tells you they have cancer, you don’t have to reach for the worst story you know.

Try this instead:

“I’m sorry you’re going through this.”
“I’m here if you need me.”

Simple. Kind. Enough.

No shame, no blame — just a little awareness from someone walking it. 💋
